Snowmobiling is one of our most popular activities, with our staff and guests alike. The winter wilderness regions we feature beg to be explored and a snowmobile is the ideal mode of transport for such a venture. The dramatic fells, forests and lakes are crossed by thousands of kilometres of trails and the mobility provided by the snowmobile means that you travel further afield in an unforgettable way.
Travelling by snowmobile is a great thrill, whether it’s an introductory safari included in many of our winter holidays or a multi-day expedition we offer the chance for you to try this activity at your own level.
Since their introduction in the late 50’s, snowmobiles have become central to life in wild winter regions and you will see families on weekend outings to visit friends and people popping out for milk on their machines. The use of snowmobiles has even been adopted by the traditional Sami reindeer herders of Lapland, whose lives have been transformed by their ability to follow their herds in this way.
As they are so intrinsic to daily life, and to the economy of these areas, you will find that the majority of our holidays include a snowmobiling experience so you too may enjoy the delights of the trails. We feature introductory safaris which cover relatively short distances and allow guests to sample this pastime, day long adventures covering over 60km in the wild and multi-day expeditions where you travel distances of over 100km per day and stay in wilderness camps.
Of course, snowmobiling is not an everyday occurrence for most of our guests so we ensure that our expert guides provide you with comprehensive tuition and a safety briefing before you take them on any trails. There are some rules of the road to obey (as traffic laws apply in the same way as they do to cars) and drivers must be over the age of 18 and hold a full driving licence to take the controls. Full details can be provided by our travel experts and are available in your trip dossiers. We also provide you with a document specifically relating to snowmobile safety before you travel.
Whilst snowmobiles are certainly not toys, they offer an unparalleled means of exploring the Great Outdoors and we highly recommend the experience to anybody.
If you decide that you do not wish to ride on a snowmobile, many of our holidays offer the chance to enjoy a safari in a sleigh pulled by snowmobile which offers a leisurely alternative. As ever, please speak to our Travel Experts if you have any questions.
