Husky Safaris

There can be few more memorable ways to travel than by dog sled, we simply implore anyone who is able to try this activity, to do so. The experience of crossing a remote and wild land whilst working with a team of eager huskies, delighting in their work, is not really describable. Very few experiences offer such a sense of connection to the environment or the team of huskies you will be working with.

Dog sledding is no longer the reserve of explorers and professional racers, it is available to guests to enjoy across our destinations and we offer a comprehensive range of safaris to make this activity accessible to as many people as possible.

The vast majority of our winter holidays will include a dog sled safari; ranging from introductory experiences with two people sharing a team over 10km, through to epic adventures up to seven days in duration where you and your team explore the wilderness. We have something for everyone to enjoy and if you do not want to drive a sled yourself, we have many destinations where you will travel in a sled controlled by the musher. The choice is yours but the experience remains unforgettable.

When you arrive to meet the dogs for the start of any activity you will almost certainly hear them before you see them, their excitement and desire for the trails is impossible for them to contain! Once harnessed in their hierarchical teams (the mushers have a method when putting all dogs together and they will explain this to you) you take control, the anchor is released and you accelerate to the dogs’ steady pace. They fall silent and often all you can hear are the sound of the paws and the sled’s runners on the snow.

No matter which safari you enjoy you will receive full instruction and a safety briefing before departure and will be accompanied on the safari by an expert guide travelling either with their own dogs or by snowmobile so, whilst this will always be an adventure experience, you will be in the company of experienced mushers throughout.

During the summer months we do still offer encounters with the dogs although the sleds are obviously awaiting the snowfall. Guests have the chance to walk with the huskies or experience a ride in a kart which the dogs pull behind them, so you can still experience these unique animals and enjoy their company at any time of year.
