A glass igloo is rather special and provides a unique experience for all guests. The name is fairly self-explanatory and simple, but a vast amount of thought has been put into their design.
Each igloo or 'bubble', as they are called in some destinations, is built from insulated glass that means the dome stays frost free (although you may have to sweep the snow off occasionally) providing exceptional views of the sky above. As all our glass igloo destinations are within the Aurora Zone, with some luck you could spend the night gazing at the Northern Lights from bed. The views of the night sky from the igloos are unparalleled and they offer a unique form of Arctic accommodation, without the need to compromise on comfort.
The glass igloos offer more privacy than you may imagine as they are fitted with either lower level curtains or frosted glass and each has a small discreet toilet (typically a very modern composting toilet) and some also have small washrooms.
Our glass igloos and bubbles are all situated in Finnish Lapland and can be added as either an extra night or incorporated into one of our holiday itineraries (subject to availability). Our travel experts will all be more than happy to discuss the options available to you as our team have firsthand experience of what it is like to spend the night in such a remarkable setting.
Our Aurora Domes, which are located in Torassieppi, offer another great overnight experience. The structure for the Aurora Domes was influenced by the tradition circular design of an igloo. They have been built and insulated to ensure you have the best view of the sky and with a bit of luck the mesmerising Northern Lights.
Each Aurora Dome consists of a wood burning stove, to keep you warm, and perfectly placed glass panels so that you can see the sky from the comfort of your cosy double bed. The Aurora Domes are either decorated with a focus on huskies or reindeer, which are two of the most famous Lappish animals. If you would like to stay in an Aurora Dome please contact our Travel Experts, who will be more than happy to discuss all the options available to you.
